I have just received a Windows 10 update on my laptop (Acer Aspire E 15). I was unable to use it for several hours and then it seemed to revert to normal operation. I checked the updates listing and found that it had been trying 8 - 10 times to install the updates but all failed. Since I was in the process of having the same updates being installed on my 'desktop', which was completed successfully and seems to operate perfectly, I selected a reinstall on my laptop. It is now 'permanently' frozen. The fan starts every 30 seconds, but nothing is happening.

This is now over three (3) hours since this problem started. I cannot turn it off. It seems that the 'ON/OFF' switch is non-functional. Any suggestions as to what I can or should do? Akheel Ahmed P. Thank you for the reply and suggestions. Prior to receiving your reply I did the following; I pressed and held the ON/OFF switch down for approximately 5 seconds, when I heard an audible 'Click', and the stalled screen went Blank, the 'humming' ceased, and it appeared the computer had Shut Down. I left the computer OFF for about six (6) hours, and then tried the usual Start procedure. The computer started immediately. I then checked the Windows Update History and found the following information; 1:'Definition Update for Windows Defender KB2267602 Def 1.211.
